The weekly invoices are built in packages the ERP can handle – leaving the team free to look at duplicate billing

How a healthcare provider generates its weekly invoices to insurers automatically – in packets of up to one million francs, because the ERP cannot process them all at once

Starting point

The healthcare provider invoices insurers weekly across a broad range of medical services. Billing runs in three categories: outpatient care, inpatient services and recurring outpatient treatments. The billable amount varies from week to week, because it depends on the contract terms of each individual insurer. In addition, the high volume of data, combined with the limitations of the ERP system, which is not designed for such data volumes, prevents all invoices from being processed simultaneously.

Solution

All three billing categories now run centrally through an RPA solution. Employees fill in a configurable form - with the case type, billing period and insurer, for example - which starts the robot. It logs into the ERP, exports the billing-relevant data and splits it into packets of up to one million francs, based on a defined maximum amount. It then sets the required metadata, identifies the items to be invoiced and instructs the ERP to generate the invoices. With the manual workload reduced, the team can concentrate on special cases such as duplicate billing, which improves the accuracy of the invoicing.
